The Urban Gardening Coalition has monthly meetings where folks can learn about planting schedules and strategies, network with other gardens, as well as learn about funding opportunities for gardens and service events. Also, people can contribute their work and ideas to the Coalition as a whole so we can continue to strengthen the local food movement. These meetings are held every 3rd Thursday of each month at 715 Elm Street at 6:00pm. Our website is hotugc.org and our events page is http://hotugc.org/upcoming-events/. CareNet has invited us to join them in mentoring new and expectant mothers. All women, regardless of age and motherhood, are invited to participate. There is curriculum available for meeting together once a month to create a scrapbook, discuss parenting skills, and most importantly, build a loving relationship. Noah's (Know Us) connects people to resources and provides assistance with benefits applications (TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, and CHIP). Free training is provided, and the experience will be rewarding!

Consider giving your time to children that have been abused and neglected and are currently in the foster care system. If you are 21 years of age, can pass local, state, and federal background checks, have 8-10 hours per month to give, and want to BE THE VOICE for children who have no one to SPEAK UP for them, then CASA is for you! The Family Abuse Center’s Second Chance Thrift Store will have a sale throughout August. The store is located in the Fairgate Shopping Center, 1412 Sunset Blvd. Everything in the store will be sold at a 75 percent discount. Proceeds will benefit victims of domestic violence. The shop has clothing for all ages, shoes, books, movies, music, household items and more. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call 753-6469.

Goodwill is looking for professionals willing to volunteer 1 – 3 hours once a month to provide Mock Interviews to participants interested in improving their job interview skills. Even volunteering only one hour a month will provide valuable interview experience to those seeking employment. Volunteer times are between 9:00am – 12:00pm on the following dates: August 23rd, September 20th, October 18th, November 15th, and December 20th.
