About Us
Who We Are
Most people who take a minute to give us feedback say that Calvary is a warm bunch of people who love God and each other. We are always adding new people to our circle, and each one makes a unique and welcome difference. Calvary is full of people who like to ask deep questions about God and about the Bible, but we’re not pretentious about our faith. You can come as you are and expect to be genuinely welcomed.
Calvary believes that God calls and gives gifts for ministry to both women and men alike. Calvary was the first Baptist church in Texas to call a female pastor. We try hard to listen for God’s Spirit when discerning together the paths we should take.
At Calvary we meet on Sundays and at other times during the week in small groups for prayer, care and spiritual growth. Most people will tell you that it’s in these small groups that they truly connect with other people in the church. If you decide to become a part of the Calvary community, we encourage you to take part in at least one small group experience. We’ll be glad to show you how to get connected.
Finally, Calvary folk remember regularly that Christ gave us two major commands: to love God, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Loving others includes loving people outside one’s family, social network, socio-economic class, nationality, culture, and race. The neighborhood in which Calvary is located is full of need and full of opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ.
